ufc 118 picks

have a few fights that should be pretty good this upcoming weekend.

for the main, co-main event we have Penn/Edgar 2, and the Couture/Toney fight.

Edgar/Penn 2

one thing i hope that changes this time around is penn decision to initiate a takedown. i feel strongly that he can hold edgar down, more specifically control and pass any guard edgar has during the course of the fight. standup is tricky. edgars very quick and moves well. an advantage i think penn has is his jab, maybe he'll use it to setup some of his blows and work for a takedown.

i have penn actually stopping edgar this time with a submission

Couture/Toney

everyone probably thinks itll play out with randy somehow getting in the inside and tripping toney to the ground and finishing him with a gnp or a submission

im picking toney. hes going to tko randy.

im not trying to be different or if toney somehow wins, rub it in ppls faces saying i had it right while the whole group called it differently. its just a call.

ill back my claims with something. i just feel randy has been getting wobbled too easily and frequently in his past few fights. i think toney will land something within the first two rounds(because thats how long the fight SHOULD last, for either of them).

ufc 118 main card

dont know the order but we have Maia/Miranda. Florian/Maynard. Davis/Diaz.

Maia/Miranda.

dont know too much about miranda other than he tkod the crow.
so this will make my pick somewhat easier and as non caring.

i have maia winning via sub.

he took some good shots from anderson and looked good. looked to have some guts standing up. some sort of machismo feel to him. i think he'll do enough in the ground and take mranda down and get the sub.

Florian/Maynard

the fight im looking most foward to in this main event.
i was never much of a fan of kenflo even less so of maynard.

but i must admit his improvement over the last few years and impressive display of his fighting ability are really turning me away from the dark side for kenny.

kenflo via tko second rd.

i think kennys standup will the be factor in this fight. he's going to beat up gray standing. gray doesnt have the reach, very basic boxing. gray will be looking for the takedown. i think this fight will end standing but if it ends up on the ground hes only diving into a pool with a shark. on the canvas hes in trouble with kennys relentless attacks both with submissions and his punches/elbows. also, i dont think he can hold kenny down for long. kenny will find it back to his feet.

idk if this is me undermining gray or just overestimating kenflo. we'll see fight night.

Davis/Diaz

honestly i felt diaz was going to lose his first ww fight against markham. my imagining of the fight was completely different than how it played out. i thought nate was going to be controlled on the fight for three rounds and that was it.
nate being controlled. idk how long that will burn with me but thats a fault i think he has.

i have davis taking this because of his standup, this may not even end up on the canvas. itll be a standup bout with davis getting the better with points
